월요일(미국 현지시간) 국제 금가격이 보합세로 마감했다. 파월 연준 의장의 발언과 경제 지표를 앞두고 귀금속 시장은 관망세에 접어들었다.
6일(현지시간) 뉴욕상품거래소에서 4월 인도분 금 가격은 전 거래일과 같은 온스당 1,854.60달러에 거래 마감됐다.
금 투자자들은 금리 방향에 대한 힌트를 얻기 위해 7일 예정된 제롬 파월 연준 의장의 증언에 대기하는 모습이다.
파월 의장은 화요일 상원 은행위원회와 수요일 하원 금융서비스 패널로 출석해 통화정책과 관련된 의원들의 질의에 답변한다.
파월 의장의 연설이 이날 오후에 발표되는 만큼 그의 발언이 얼마나 매파적일지가 관건이다.
미 연준이 인플레이션에 대처하기 위해 금리인상폭을 50bp로 다시 올릴 수 있다는 우려는 약간 가라앉았다. 당장은 금리인상폭을 확대하는 것보다 25bp씩 횟수를 늘리는 편이 낫다는 쪽으로 기울고 있다.
높은 금리 인상은 금 가격에 비우호적인 요인이다. 금은 금리 관련 자산이 아니기 때문에 금리가 인상되면 금 보유에 대한 기회비용이 높아진다.
아울러 오는 10일에는 미국의 2월 고용보고서가 발표된다.
지난 1월 고용보고서는 올초 금가격 상승의 발목을 잡는 요인으로 작용했다. 미국의 고용시장이 예상보다 훨씬 견조한 것으로 확인돼서다. 연준의 기준금리 인상 행보를 조기에 종식할 수 있다는 기대가 이때부터 주춤해지면서 2월 한달 내내 금가격을 끌어내렸다.
1월 고용 지표 이후 금가격이 하락세로 방향을 틀었다는 점에서 이번 고용 지표에 귀금속 시장에는 다시 경계감이 강화되고 있다.
전문가들은 금가격이 이번주 파월 의장의 발언과 2월 고용 보고서에 의해 단기적 향방이 결정될 것이라고 말했다.
Kinesis Money의 시장 분석가인 루퍼트 롤링은 "투자자들이 연준의 금리 움직임과 미국 고용 데이타에 대기하면서 주초 1,850달러 수준을 유지했다"며 "연준의 움직임에 금이 얼마나 묶였는지를 감안할 때 파월의 이 두 연설은 금 가격을 견인하는 데 큰 요인"이 될 것이라고 설명했다.
한편, 5월 은 가격은 10센트(0.5%) 하락한 온스당 21.135달러에 거래 마감했다. 4월 플래티넘은 약 0.1% 하락한 온스당 978.60달러, 6월 팔라듐은 1.7% 하락한 온스당 1,424.50달러를 나타냈다. 5월 구리는 0.5% 오른 파운드당 4.0885달러를 기록했다.
국내 금가격은 원/달러 환율 하락에 따라 이틀 연속 약보합세를 나타냈다.
7일 한국금거래소 따르면 소비자가 순금 1돈(24k, 3.75g) 살때 가격은 전장 마감가보다 0.15%(500원) 내린 331,000원(VAT포함)이다(오전 9시 25분 기준).
소비자가 순금 1돈 팔때 가격은 전장과 같은 289,000원을 나타냈다. 18k, 14k 팔때 가격도 각각 209,600원, 161,800원으로 전 거래일과 같은 수준을 유지하고 있다.(18k와 14k 살때는 제품시세를 적용한다).
이 밖에 은 살때 시세는 3,870원, 팔때 2,940원으로 전일 대비 각 0.52%, 0.68% 내렸고, 백금 살때 가격은 전날과 같은 172,000원, 팔때 가격은 144,000원을 기록했다.
다른 거래소인 한국표준금거래소에서 순금 1돈 살때 가격은 전거래일 종가대비 소폭 내린 330,000원(vat포함), 팔때는 290,000원을 나타냈다.
같은 시각 한국거래소(KRX)의 금값은 전거래일 종가대비 0.08% 내린 1g당 77,040원에 거래되고 있다.
신한은행 금가격은 1g당 77,035.76원으로 전일대비 0.39%(305.48원) 하락했다.
이 시각 국제 금값(오전 9시 25분 기준, 런던 LBMA GOLD Price 시세)은 1,844달러 선에 움직이고 있다.
서울 외환시장에서 원/달러 환율은 전 거래일 종가 대비 2.1원 오른 1299.0원에 개장했다.

Concerns that the Fed could raise interest rates back to 50 basis points to combat inflation have subsided slightly. Right now, it is leaning toward increasing the frequency of interest rate hikes by 25 basis points rather than increasing the scope of interest rate hikes.
High interest rate hikes are unfavorable to gold prices. Because gold is not an interest rate asset, rising interest rates increase the opportunity cost of holding gold.
In addition, on the 10th, the US employment report for February will be released.
The January employment report acted as a deterrent to the rise in gold prices earlier this year. This is because the US job market has been confirmed to be much stronger than expected. Expectations for an early end to the Fed's interest rate hike slowed from that point on, dragging gold prices down throughout February.
Given that gold prices turned downward after the employment data in January, the precious metals market is once again wary of the employment data.
Experts said the near-term direction of gold prices will be determined by Chairman Powell's comments this week and the February employment report.
“Given how tied gold was to the Fed, these two speeches from Powell held at the $1,850 level earlier in the week as investors waited for Fed rate moves and US employment data,” said Rupert Rowling, market analyst at Kinesis Money. "Silver will be a big factor in driving gold prices," he explained.
Meanwhile, silver prices fell 10 cents (0.5%) in May to close at $21.135 per ounce. In April, platinum fell about 0.1% to $978.60 per ounce, and in June, palladium fell 1.7% to $1,424.50 per ounce. Copper rose 0.5% in May to $4.0885 per pound.
Domestic gold prices showed a weak trend for two days in a row due to the fall in the won/dollar exchange rate.
According to the Korea Gold Exchange on the 7th, when a consumer buys 1 don (24k, 3.75g) of pure gold, the price is 331,000 won (including VAT), down 0.15% (500 won) from the closing price of the battlefield (as of 9:25 am).
When consumers sell 1 don of pure gold, the price was 289,000 won, the same as the battlefield. When selling 18k and 14k, the price is also maintained at the same level as the previous trading day at 209,600 won and 161,800 won, respectively. Shinhan Bank's gold price was 77,035.76 won per gram, down 0.39% (305.48 won) from the previous day.
At this time, the international gold price (as of 9:25 am, London LBMA GOLD Price) is moving around the $1,844 level.
In the Seoul foreign exchange market, the won/dollar exchange rate opened at 1299.0 won, up 2.1 won from the previous trading day's closing price.
