-6 days international gold price 0.5%¡é
-Today's domestic gold price (Korea Gold Exchange 0.14%¡é)

On Thursday (local time in the US), international gold prices fell slightly ahead of the 'Good Friday' holiday.

On the 6th (local time) on the New York Mercantile Exchange, the June gold futures price closed at $2,026.40 per ounce, down $9.2 (0.5%). Gold prices fell for the second day in a row. After the gold price approached the historic high of $2,069.40 per ounce, it appears to be slowing down for a while following the previous day. The all-time high, which is drawing attention from the market, has been postponed to next week due to the 'Good Friday' holiday the next day.

On this day, the precious metal market is in an atmosphere of taking a breather as profit realization following the recognition of the high point and wait-and-see sentiment work ahead of the next day's holiday.

Precious metals investors are keeping their eyes peeled for the US Department of Labor's nonfarm payrolls report for March and the unemployment rate to be released the following day.

Ahead of the non-farm payrolls report, employment data released this week generally slowed.

As a result, non-agricultural employment indicators in March are also expected to be weaker than before.

Nonfarm payrolls were expected to increase by 238,000 in March, according to analyst forecasts compiled by the Wall Street Journal.

This is down from the 311,000 increase in February last year.

Experts predicted that the unemployment rate would remain at the same level as the previous month at 3.6%.

Market participants are expecting the US Federal Reserve (Fed) to stop raising interest rates soon as the employment data shows signs of cooling.

Some are not ruling out the possibility that the Fed will cut rates if the risk of a recession grows.

Expectations that the Fed will halt interest rate hikes amid sluggish economic data are acting as a boon to the precious metals market. Because gold is not an interest rate asset, when interest rates rise, the opportunity cost of holding gold inevitably rises.

Experts predict that gold prices will remain at their peak for the time being.

Craig Erlam, senior market analyst at OANDA, explained that "sluggish economic data reinforcing the need for a rate cut could keep gold above $2,000 and perhaps push it into uncharted territory."

Meanwhile, international gold prices rose more than 2% this week, marking the sixth consecutive week of gains. Gold hit $2,038.20 on Tuesday, its highest level in a year since March 2022. On Wednesday, it briefly reached $2,049.20, its highest intraday level in about 13 months.

Silver futures for May delivery rose 6 cents (0.2%) to $25.09 per ounce, up 3.9% over the week. In June, palladium rose 2.6% to close at $1,462.40 an ounce, but fell 0.4% during the week. In July, platinum rose 0.9% to $1,016.80 an ounce, up 1.4% on the week. Copper prices for May delivery rose 0.7% to $4.02 per pound, down 1.9% this week.
