-13th International Gold Price ¡è1.16%
-Today's Gold Price (Korea Gold Exchange ¡è0.43%, 2 consecutive days of record highs)

The international gold price broke the $2,600 per ounce mark, renewing its all-time high for the second consecutive day. Expectations of the US Federal Reserve's base rate cut led to the high gold price.

On Friday (13th local time), the price of gold futures for December this year at the New York Mercantile Exchange closed at $2,610.70 per ounce, up 1.16% ($30.1) from the previous trading day.

In addition, the gold price soared to $2,614.60 per ounce at one point during the session. Both the intraday price and the closing price are all-time highs. The previous day, the gold price also hit an all-time high of $2,588.50 during the session and $2,580.60 at the closing price.

There were no indicators or events that could move the market, but expectations that the Federal Reserve (Fed) will make a big cut (50bp rate cut) at its meeting next week have increased, leading to gold buying. When the benchmark interest rate falls, the appeal of non-interest bearing gold tends to increase.

According to the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) FedWatch Tool, the federal funds futures market reflected a 51% chance that the benchmark interest rate will be cut by 50bp at the September FOMC. It surged from around 15% the previous morning to over 50% in one day.

Expectations were heightened after current and former Fed officials hinted at the possibility of a big cut through some media outlets, and former New York Federal Reserve Bank President William Dudley also supported the 50bp rate cut.

At the Bretton Woods Forum held in Singapore the previous day, Dudley said, ¡°There is a strong argument for a 50bp (rate cut),¡± and ¡°If it were me, I would know what I would pursue.¡± He hinted that he supports a 50bp cut.

Precious metal investors are paying attention to whether the Federal Reserve will cut interest rates more aggressively at its policy meeting next week.

The dollar, which has fallen for two consecutive days, also put upward pressure on gold prices.

The dollar index (DXY), which reflects the value of the dollar against six major currencies, fell 0.166 points (0.164%) to 101.108 from the previous day's 101.274. The dollar index fell to 100.881 during the morning session, marking the lowest level since the 6th.

The decline in the dollar is a positive factor for gold, as it lowers the perceived price of gold, which is usually traded in dollars, and stimulates overseas buyers' buying sentiment.

As a result, the price of gold has surpassed $2,600 per ounce for the first time ever, rising more than 3% this week.

Experts say it is only a matter of time before the price of gold surpasses $3,000.

Peter A. Grant, vice president and chief metals strategist at Zaner Metals, said, ¡°If the incoming data points to growth risks and labor market weakness, then a 50-basis-point rate cut in November or December could increase the bullish sentiment for gold and bring forward the $3,000 mark.¡±

¡°The market still expects the Fed to cut rates by 100 basis points by year-end, meaning it would have to cut rates by 50 basis points at one of its two remaining meetings after September,¡± Commerzbank analysts said. ¡°Therefore, the bullish sentiment is likely driven by expectations of aggressive rate cuts in the coming months.¡±

The World Gold Council (WGC) said last week that global physical gold exchange-traded funds (ETFs) saw inflows for the fourth straight month in August.

The SPDR Gold Trust, the world¡¯s largest gold-backed ETF, saw its holdings hit their highest level since early January on Thursday. From a technical perspective, the RSI, currently at 69, suggests that gold prices are approaching the "overbought" zone, starting at 70.

Meanwhile, spot silver prices rose 2.3% to $30.61, while platinum rose 2.4% to $1,000.57. Palladium rose 2% to $1,067.43, up about 17% so far this week.

At this time, the international gold price (as of 1:50 p.m., London LBMA gold price) is moving around $2,576.

Domestic gold prices also rose for two consecutive days as international gold prices rose.

According to the Korea Gold Exchange on the 14th, when consumers buy 1 don (24k, 3.75g) of pure gold, the price is 470,000 won (including VAT), up 0.43% (2,000 won) from the previous day (as of 1:50 p.m.). This is the highest price during trading since the Korea Gold Exchange opened in January 2005.

When consumers sell 1 don of pure gold, the price is 407,000 won, the same as the previous day. When selling 18k and 14k, the prices are 299,200 won and 232,000 won, respectively, the same as the previous trading day (the product price is applied when buying 18k and 14k).

In addition, the price when buying silver is 5,780 won, up 2.25% from the previous trading day, and when selling, it is 4,600 won, up 2.39%. The price of platinum when buying rose 1.08% from the previous day to 186,000 won, and the price when selling rose 1.32% to 151,000 won.

The previous day, the won-dollar exchange rate in the Seoul foreign exchange market closed at 1,329.5 won, down 9.2 won from the previous trading day.

Detailed domestic gold prices can be found on the Korea Gold Exchange and Korea Exchange (KRX) websites.
